The Venue

Black Market Nubian is a 1,720-square-foot gallery-style venue located at 2136 Washington Street in Nubian Square, Roxbury. Since opening in June 2017, it has consistently served the community as the premiere space for cultural programming, local business development, and civic engagement.

Designed as a flexible, open loft, the space can be configured to meet the needs of a wide range of activities. It has been used by local organizers, artists, educators, and businesses as a meeting place, presentation space, and creative studio. Black Market Nubian has also served as a launching point for major community initiatives and public art projects in the Nubian Square area.
Over the years, the venue has hosted more than 200 events, including curated markets, art exhibitions, community planning sessions, photo and video shoots, conferences, and workshops. The space is designed to support a range of uses and is regularly activated by artists, entrepreneurs, educators, organizers, and residents working to strengthen and invest in the Roxbury community.

Nubian Square, the commercial district where the gallery-style space is located, is experiencing a major period of investment and construction activity.
