About Us

Owner’s Christopher and Kaidi Grant are Serial Entrepreneurs, Philanthropists, and Diaspora-Centric world travelers presently residing in Roxbury’s Highland Park. They come from a Long line of proud, active, thought-leaders and doers in Boston’s Black Community and carry the legacy of Entrepreneurship, Education, and Art in their blood.

Professed Pan-Africanists, Chris and Kai envision African unification and have vouched to begin with the rebuilding of the black local economy through the establishment of the flagship Black Market in Boston. The duo is ready to continue the legacy of where A Nubian Notion left off in Dudley Square with the launch of Black Market and the much needed focus of cooperative economics.

Our Mission

Black Market Nubian was established in 2017 with a clear goal: to support Black-owned dreams and create opportunities for economic growth within Roxbury’s creative economy igniting its potential. Launched as both a marketplace and community venue, our work has been guided by a commitment to cultural pride, cooperative economics, and community self-determination.

Over the years, we became a vital platform for artists, founders, makers, entrepreneurs, and changemakers—offering space to sell, share, perform, build, and belong. Through hundreds of curated events, we have celebrated Black culture while fostering meaningful economic opportunities for local businesses and independent creatives. Our efforts have consistently centered those historically excluded from institutional support, while amplifying the richness of Roxbury’s cultural solar system.

We have helped transform Nubian Square into a site of active cultural production and economic possibility. From hosting panels and policy forums to producing public art and large-scale cultural activations, we have worked in collaboration with community members to restore value to people, place, and practice. Through intentional programming, civic engagement, and artistic expression, Black Market Nubian has become a trusted cultural anchor—one that reflects the beauty, complexity, and aspirations of the community it serves.
